Position Title: Quality Manager

About the Role
To ensure necessary legislative and agreed quality standards concerning hygiene, food handling, and food safety, at reasonable cost. To set standards and implement procedures to ensure that the compliance programs throughout the site, and in line with other McCain sites, are effective in identifying, preventing, detecting, and correcting non-compliance with applicable laws, regulations, and relevant compliance standards.
To effectively manage the Quality Assurance team to control and monitor the quality of the product, GMP compliance, and legal requirements, driving appropriate action as required.
Key Responsibilities
- Ensure culture and values remain in the forefront of all of your activities, contributing to the ongoing development of our people through the sharing of ideas, new ways of working, and supporting personnel at all times.
- Support the Technical Manager and site Plant Manager with the development and roll out of the Quality and Compliance strategy for the site, including but not limited to the core requirements of:
- Management commitment and control
- Quality management systems
- Internal and external auditing
- Liaise with the site leadership team on important issues and non-compliance with credible performance data reports and data logging.
- Work closely with other departments to create training and development initiatives to support continuous improvement and develop teams. Provide guidance, advice, and/or training and educational programs to improve business understanding of related food laws and regulatory requirements.
- Ensure effective HACCP systems are in operation. To support the Food Safety Officer in the organization and implementation of HACCP systems, ensuring adequate training is organized to implement HACCP and create necessary level of awareness amongst relevant staff and to co-ordinate HACCP teams.
- Ensure effective TACCP/site security programs are in place, ensuring adequate training is in place and regularly review these systems at site.
- To co-ordinate, respond, and investigate customer complaints to root cause. This includes store complaints and initiating actions as required with relevant departmental managers/supervisors.
- Periodically review the quality compliance site plans in light of changes or updates. Guide site teams to meet these requirements and to provide strategic direction to the leadership team on all compliance aspects.
- Develop and maintain an audit program and coordinate efforts related to audits, reviews, and examinations. Ensure the site is maintained at the required standards to meet regulatory, customer, BRC, and other audit requirements.
- Liaise with external service providers for relevant information identifying best practice opportunities.
- Liaise with all regulatory enforcement bodies – EHO, Trading standards, etc.
- Ensure the QA function develops and maintains systems and procedures that provide the correct information required, including due diligence, customer specifications, traceability, and customer manufacturing standards.
- Support the QA functions to resolve issues arising from raw materials and production operations and resolve with the senior leadership team as required.
- Ensure key parameters are monitored (including complaint levels, microbial levels, weight control, and waste levels) and ensure corrective action is taken as appropriate.
- To ensure all products dispatched for sale are legal and safe and comply with the relevant specification.
- To liaise with external testing providers, ensuring all relevant checks are completed on time. Ensure out of specification results are actioned appropriately.
- To oversee quality assurance.
- Issue quality assurance and process control methods and recording sheets.
- Ensure all checks are carried out and recorded.
- Collect and store records for future inspection by customers and relevant authorities.
- Implement and maintain the McCain sensory program at site. Ensure staff are trained and documentation is saved. Drive corrective action and/or improvement projects as necessary.
- To co-ordinate microbiological testing regime for product, swabs, and raw materials and water. To co-ordinate and analyze results, and initiate corrective action, preparing internal microbiological analysis reports as necessary. To co-ordinate chemical testing regime for products and analyze results. To produce responses for customer, Trading Standards, or EHO queries as necessary.
- Manage and action unavailable stock.
- Own site level foreign material control, including metal detection and X-ray equipment performance. Work with engineering to verify that physical machine settings match the software detection configuration and support the wider foreign material elimination program.
- Analyze site complaint data to identify trends and recurring root causes, using this insight to prioritize corrective action and to inform annual quality planning.
- Manage agricultural and raw material specification concessions at site level, including temporary tolerance changes agreed with customers, ensuring production teams are briefed and records are kept for audit.

Experience
- Experience of working within a factory environment
- Quality inspection, auditing, and testing experience
- Food sensory knowledge and Food Quality experience
- Worked within the food industry
