About The Role
The Quality Specialist role is based in Rugby and is essential for ensuring the highest standards of manufacturing quality within a highly engineered electrical machine and systems manufacturing environment. This position involves leading production quality activities, overseeing inspection processes, and driving continuous improvement initiatives to maintain product conformity and operational efficiency. The successful candidate will play a pivotal role in supporting critical applications in energy, marine, defense, and industrial sectors worldwide. This is a 6-month contract position, offering a competitive rate of £50/hour inside IR35 via an umbrella arrangement. The role requires active Security Clearance (SC), and applicants must hold a full UK passport.
Qualifications
The ideal candidate will possess a degree in Engineering, Manufacturing, or Quality, or have equivalent professional experience in these domains. Proven leadership experience in manufacturing quality is essential, along with comprehensive knowledge of ISO 9001 standards, root cause analysis (RCA), corrective and preventive actions (CAPA), Lean methodologies, and KPI management. Candidates must have active UK Security Clearance (SC) and be a full UK passport holder. Additional certifications such as Six Sigma Green Belt or Black Belt are highly desirable, especially those with experience in rotating electrical machines, heavy engineering, aerospace, defense, or power generation sectors. Familiarity with advanced quality tools such as APQP, PPAP, PFMEA, control plans, digital dashboards, and SAP is advantageous.

Responsibilities
- Provide day-to-day leadership and management of the Production Quality organization, including leading and developing Quality Engineers, Production Inspectors, and Receiving Inspection teams.
- Establish a high-performance culture emphasizing accountability, coaching, and continuous improvement to enhance team effectiveness and quality outcomes.
- Lead manufacturing quality initiatives across all production areas, ensuring consistent product conformity throughout the manufacturing process.
- Develop and optimize inspection strategies based on product risk assessments to ensure quality without compromising operational efficiency.
- Support production flow by balancing quality assurance activities with operational productivity, ensuring timely delivery of defect-free products.
- Own operational governance related to production quality, including managing GO / NO GO decision-making processes and leading quality hold governance and escalation procedures.
- Drive deployment of Layered Process Audits and develop standard work and visual management systems across the production environment.
- Lead daily production quality governance meetings, analyze data, and implement corrective actions to resolve quality issues promptly.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to develop quality improvement initiatives, monitor key performance indicators, and report on quality performance metrics.
