About the Role

We are working exclusively with a successful boutique asset manager looking to hire an experienced Quantamental Equity Portfolio Manager into its established equities team.

Reporting to a Senior Quantitative Portfolio Manager and Partner, the successful candidate will contribute to existing equity strategies while helping to develop and ultimately launch new products, potentially including a long/short strategy.

This is not a purely systematic, research or portfolio-construction role. The client is looking for an experienced investor who has taken direct responsibility for managing money, developed strong views through that experience and can clearly articulate how they would approach stock selection and portfolio management.

The successful candidate should combine quantitative analysis with genuine investment judgement. They must be able to challenge an existing process, introduce differentiated ideas and demonstrate which elements of their investment approach they have personally developed and implemented.

Key Responsibilities

  • Contributing directly to investment decisions across existing equity strategies
  • Generating stock ideas using quantitative, fundamental and market insights
  • Developing and refining a distinctive, repeatable investment process
  • Taking ownership of research and investment projects from conception through to implementation
  • Helping to research, develop and potentially launch a long/short equity strategy
  • Working closely with senior investors on stock selection, portfolio positioning and risk
  • Communicating the investment philosophy and portfolio positioning to institutional clients and prospects

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

Candidates are likely to come from an asset manager or hedge fund and should already have meaningful hands-on money-management experience. Experience in long/short equities would be particularly valuable, although candidates from long-only backgrounds will also be considered where they can demonstrate a clear understanding of short investing and portfolio construction.

The opportunity should appeal to an investor who wants to move away from a large or highly segmented organisation and join an entrepreneurial environment where they can influence the investment process, take genuine ownership and help build the next generation of strategies and products.
