Quantitative Analyst

Cititec is working with a leading global commodities trading firm is looking to hire a Quantitative Analyst. The team provides quantitative modelling, pricing and risk infrastructure across multiple trading desks, supporting activity across oil, gas and power markets. This is an opportunity to work closely with traders and other quantitative specialists on models and analytical tools that directly support commercial trading decisions.
The Role
As part of the centralised quantitative function, you will work across a range of commodities and trading strategies, developing and improving quantitative infrastructure used for pricing, valuation, risk management and trading analytics.
The role will involve:
- Developing and enhancing quantitative models used across oil, gas and power trading desks
- Working on pricing and valuation frameworks for physical and financial commodities
- Developing quantitative infrastructure for risk analysis, scenario modelling and decision-making
- Applying mathematical and statistical modelling techniques to real-world commodity markets
- Working closely with traders, analysts, developers and other quants to understand commercial requirements and translate them into robust quantitative solutions
- Improving existing models and methodologies, as well as developing new approaches where required
- Working with large and complex datasets and applying quantitative techniques to solve practical problems
- Contributing to a centralised quantitative platform that supports multiple trading teams across the business

What We're Looking For
The firm is looking for highly analytical, mathematically strong individuals who are interested in applying quantitative techniques to commodity markets.
The ideal candidate will have:
- A strong academic background in Mathematics, Applied Mathematics, Physics, Engineering, Statistics, Computer Science or a related quantitative discipline
- Strong mathematical and quantitative modelling skills
- Experience developing or applying quantitative models in a professional environment
- Previous experience working as a Quantitative Analyst / Quant / Quantitative Researcher within commodities, energy or financial markets
- Good programming skills, particularly Python; experience with C++ or other quantitative programming languages is advantageous
- An ability to understand complex problems, structure them mathematically and develop practical solutions
- Strong communication skills and the ability to work closely with traders and other stakeholders
- Intellectual curiosity and an interest in understanding how quantitative models translate into real-world trading and risk decisions

The team is particularly interested in candidates who combine strong academic mathematical foundations with practical commodities experience. This could include quants who have worked within:
- Oil and refined products
- Natural gas
- Power and electricity
- Commodity derivatives
- Physical commodities
- Commodity trading houses
- Energy trading firms
- Banks or hedge funds with a commodities focus
