Job Type: Permanent, Full Time
The Opportunity
EVEREC is partnering with a fast-growing energy trading business to recruit a Quantitative Developer to join its expanding quantitative trading function. Working directly alongside a Quantitative Trader, you'll be responsible for developing the quantitative models, algorithms and systematic strategies that feed directly into live trading decisions across European energy markets.
This is a front-office quantitative trading role. We're looking for someone who is already operating within a quantitative, systematic or algorithmic trading environment and has direct experience working on or alongside a trading desk. You'll combine a strong mathematical background with hands-on programming and trading experience to research, build, backtest and implement quantitative strategies within a fast-moving commercial environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Research, develop and implement quantitative and systematic trading strategies across energy and commodity markets.
- Work directly alongside Quantitative Traders to identify new trading signals, market opportunities and sources of alpha.
- Build quantitative models and algorithms that feed directly into live trading decisions.
- Develop and backtest systematic and algorithmic trading strategies using historical and real-time market data.
- Apply statistical and mathematical techniques to analyse market behaviour, pricing dynamics and trading opportunities.
- Evaluate strategy performance, robustness and risk before deployment into live trading environments.
- Translate quantitative research and trading ideas into production-ready models and tools.
- Analyse large and complex market datasets to identify patterns and commercially valuable signals.
- Continuously monitor, refine and improve existing quantitative models and trading strategies.
- Work closely with traders and technical teams to rapidly research, test and implement new ideas.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

About You
We're looking for an experienced quantitative professional who is already working within a systematic, quantitative or algorithmic trading environment. The key requirement is genuine exposure to front-office quantitative trading rather than optimisation, operations research or consultancy.

- Direct experience working on or closely alongside a quantitative trading desk.
- A strong academic background in Mathematics, Statistics, Physics, Computer Science, Financial Engineering or another highly quantitative discipline.
- Strong mathematical, statistical and quantitative modelling capabilities.
- Hands-on experience researching, developing and backtesting systematic trading strategies.
- Strong programming skills, ideally using Python, with the ability to develop quantitative models and trading tools yourself.
- Experience working with financial, energy or commodity market data.
- A strong understanding of how quantitative models and algorithms are applied within live trading environments.
- Experience taking quantitative ideas from initial research through backtesting and into implementation.
- Ability to work closely with traders in a fast-paced, commercially focused environment.
- Previous experience within energy or commodity trading would be highly advantageous.
- Knowledge of quantitative trading infrastructure and production environments would be beneficial but is not essential.
