Research Associate
We are seeking a Research Associate with a strong academic–industry background to join our internal strategy research team in London. This role is focused on deep secondary research, literature synthesis, and theoretical analysis, bridging cutting-edge academic finance with practical industry applications.
About the Role
You will work at the intersection of academia and industry, translating the latest research into actionable insights for our strategy and investment teams. We expect you to be familiar with behavioral finance, hedge funds, and quant finance, and to thrive in an environment where academic rigor meets real-world application.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct deep secondary research and literature synthesis on topics at the intersection of AI and finance, including GPT/LLM chatbots in finance, trading bots, and finance trader selection — spanning LLMs in finance, traditional finance, and market microstructure.
- Stay current with leading literature on financial and wealth management, and distill key findings for internal stakeholders.
- Pitch the latest finance findings from top journals (e.g., Journal of Finance, Journal of Financial Economics, Review of Financial Studies) and assess their applicability to industry practice.
- Trace the historical evolution of a given theory and evaluate its current implementation and real-world effectiveness.
- Identify connections, tensions, and gaps across different strands of literature — a systematic, critical-thinking mindset that is especially valuable for practitioners.
- Collaborate across academic and industry partners to support industry–academia cooperation initiatives.
- Support the internal strategy research team with theoretical analysis and evidence-based recommendations.

Requirements
- Strong academic background in finance, economics, or a related quantitative field (Master's or PhD preferred).
- Familiarity with behavioral finance, hedge funds, and quant finance.
- Solid understanding of AI in finance, including LLMs in finance, trading bots, and market microstructure.
- Ability to read, synthesize, and communicate current leading literature in financial and wealth management.
- Proven ability to translate findings from top finance journals (JF, JFE, RFS) into industry-applicable insights.
- Strong systematic and critical thinking — able to map the historical development of a theory, assess its current implementation, and spot gaps and linkages across the literature.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to pitch complex ideas clearly.

Nice to Have
