The Company

Established in 1998, JSM Group designs and installs the power networks, digital infrastructure and specialist systems that critical industries run on, from high-power grid connections and data centres to renewable energy. Our turnkey teams deliver complex infrastructure at speed, on time, and with reduced legislative, technical and commercial risk.

Our Commercial team keeps JSM's projects on budget and on contract. As a Quantity Surveying Apprentice, you'll help monitor and control the costs and commercial side of our construction and infrastructure projects, learning from experienced surveyors. You'll study towards a Level 4 qualification and build the knowledge, skills and behaviours needed to progress towards professional Technician status – ideal if you enjoy numbers, detail and problem solving.

What You'll Be Doing

  • Assist quantity surveyors and senior quantity surveyors with budgeting, cost planning and controlling costs across projects.
  • Help measure and value completed work and support interim valuations and payment applications.
  • Support procurement – obtaining and comparing quotes and helping select and manage subcontractors and suppliers.
  • Help administer contracts and keep accurate records that support fair, dispute-free working.
  • Record, control and report income and expenditure, and help prepare cash-flow, cost forecasts and financial reports.
  • Assist with collecting, collating, storing and analysing commercial data, keeping files organised.
  • Apply health & safety and sustainability principles to your commercial work.
  • Build good working relationships with the project team, clients and the supply chain, and contribute to meetings.
  • Work to the industry code of ethics and complete your apprenticeship coursework.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

  • You'll cover cost control, contracts, procurement, construction technology, financial reporting, health & safety and sustainability.
  • On completion you'll have the knowledge, skills and behaviours for Technician status with RICS or CICES.
  • This Level 4 is your springboard: it's the recognised entry route onto the Level 6 Construction Quantity Surveyor (degree) apprenticeship (ST0045) – a work-based BSc (Hons) Quantity Surveying you can earn while you keep working and earning with us.
