The Marine Bulk Import Facility (MBIF)

The Marine Bulk Import Facility (MBIF) is a major temporary marine infrastructure project supporting the construction of the Sizewell C nuclear power station on the Suffolk coast. The facility enables the delivery of large construction materials by sea and includes a 463m-long jetty, steel and precast structures, and a cantilevered traveller system (Cantitravel) for modular construction.

Key Project Features Relevant to Roles

  • Construction Methodology: Marine piling, modular steel and precast concrete assembly, cantilevered traveller erection system.
  • Workstreams: Early Contractor Involvement (ECI), Test Piling, and Main Works.
  • Delivery Timeline: August 2025 – November 2026.
  • Contract Model: NEC3 Option C – Target Cost with Activity Schedule.

The Role

You will be supporting other more senior members of the commercial team in delivering the varied commercial duties as well as being responsible for procuring and managing our supply chain. You will actively seek to minimise the costs of a project and enhance value for money, while still achieving the required standards and quality for our customers. Typically, a QS will be chartered or in the final stages of achieving professional membership of the RICS, ICES or CIOB and will be a peer role model for those less experienced members of the commercial team.

What You'll Be Doing

Governance

  • Has a good knowledge of and adheres to the Company’s GMCEs, BMS and other governance
  • Analytical Thinking & Decision Making
  • Contract Administration
  • Have a good knowledge of the administration of the NEC contract, in particular options A and C. Ability to compose clear and cogent EWNs, CEN and communications to enable the successful administration of Contract.
  • Experience and exposure in dealing with contentious contractual matters in order to assist commercial team in seeking resolution.
  • Have a good ability to compile and interrogate project costs to enable monthly submission of AfPs.
  • Measure, record & value work unsupervised in accordance with appropriate rules and procedures

Estimating

  • Measure & interpret specifications & drawings
  • Build up estimates from first principle including net and gross estimates
  • Translate measurement from drawings and Specifications and prepare Bills of Quantities and Schedules of rates

Planning

  • Review weekly, monthly, section programmes of works
  • Plan commercial activities to meet requirements of section programmes
  • Have an understanding of delay and disruption programmes

Project Management

  • Use the company’s ERP System
  • Collation of Cost and Value Information
  • Preparation of Cost reconciliation statements

Procurement

  • Collect information required to specify procurement requirements
  • Record and document information including registration of interest
  • Understand the steps / documentation required

Commercial Management

  • Undertakes customer and stakeholder management for their area of responsibility
  • Collation of cost and value information
  • Measurement of works and agreements with subcontractors

Development, Recruitment and Retention

  • Maintain a Personal Development Plan
  • Supports the development of others
  • Working towards professional membership from the RICS, ICES or CIOB

Essential Qualifications:

  • BSc or MSc in Quantity Surveying or experience equivalent

Desirable Qualities/Experience:

  • Communication
