Title - Quantity Surveyor

Location - National role with a flexible base location

Term - 12 Month Fixed Term Contract

Our construction team is undergoing a significant transformation with a focus on insourcing and in-house development across our project portfolio. As part of the RM Engineering family, we have a mission to design, develop and deploy future ready, innovative solutions across our property, automation and maintenance teams. Our focus is on recruiting highly talented, motivated and driven individuals to support the success of our strategy and we have some exciting and high-profile roles available across our teams.

As a Senior Quantity Surveyor at Royal Mail, you will lead commercial and cost management activity from feasibility to final account. You’ll shape commercial strategy, support procurement decisions, manage financial performance and collaborate closely with internal teams and external partners.

Please note this is a national role with a flexible base location. You could be based from multiple locations throughout the UK and hybrid working is expected. Travel and site visits form part of the role. A full UK driving licence is required.

The Role

  • Leading commercial planning, governance and reporting across assigned projects, ensuring strong cost control from concept to completion.
  • Preparing cost plans, estimates, tender documentation, bills of quantities and commercial evaluations for a wide range of construction and engineering schemes.
  • Managing valuations, contractor applications, forecasting, cashflow and final accounts, ensuring accuracy and financial compliance.
  • Driving value engineering and cost saving initiatives, identifying opportunities to optimise scope, reduce lifecycle cost and support insourcing where appropriate.
  • Providing clear commercial reporting covering cost to complete, forecast outturns, risks, opportunities and supply chain performance.
  • Ensuring compliance with statutory and organisational governance, including procurement policies, audit requirements and relevant construction legislation (e.g., CDM 2015).
  • Managing commercial and contractual risks through robust assessments and maintaining project risk registers.
  • Building effective relationships with internal teams, contractors and suppliers, supporting negotiations and driving performance improvements.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
