Job Summary

Working within Aureos’ Energy Business Unit, and forming a part of the Commercial team, the Quantity Surveyor plays an integral part in delivering exceptional commercial results. Core responsibilities encompass project delivery, commercial reporting, and maximising profit.

Duties

Primary Tasks and Duties

  • Reporting to the Commercial Manager, assist the commercial team in providing support to the contract delivery team to ensure the profitability, cash management, cost control, and accurate reporting of all schemes.
  • Maximisation of income through sound advice and decision making.
  • Management and execution of the change control system.
  • Management of project risk.
  • Production of CVRs.
  • Produce accurate costs and forecasts.
  • Management of the full sub-contract cycle.
  • Competently review and administer contracts.
  • Provision of general commercial advice to Project Team.
  • Input into the development of team spirit and trustworthiness within Project Commercial Team and with Client and S/C.
  • Input into the management of dispute resolution.
  • Produce weekly cost to complete/budget reviews with the contract delivery teams.
  • Upload documentation as and when necessary, in line with business requirements.
  • Review weekly site records including allocation sheets and site diaries.
  • Attend project progress meetings.
  • Challenge project team and provide valuable contribution to the project.
  • Good understanding of works scope and programme.
  • Preparation of monthly financial performance reports.
  • Gain experience outside of the commercial function to better understand the role of the business and the quantity surveyor within the business.
  • Develop a collaborative working relationship with the client’s and subcontractor commercial leads and wider project team.

Secondary Tasks and Duties

  • Ensure that the group commercial policies are adhered to and that the requirements of legislation are met.
  • Manage commercial performance against business targets and KPIs.
  • Working with the commercial and operational teams to strive for continuous improvement.
  • Promote a culture of integration, continuous improvement, and use of best practice across the client base.
  • Assisting with the use of key lean tools to drive efficiencies and reduce waste.
  • Encourage, support, and assist with the delivery of successful collaborative planning with the contract delivery teams.
  • Commitment to their own professional development, and that of others across the Business Unit.
  • Other tasks appropriate to the role of Quantity Surveyor, as identified by the Senior Quantity Surveyor/Managing Surveyor.

Expectations

Targets for the Quantity Surveyor will be set and reviewed on a 6-monthly basis, aligned with the responsibilities and behaviours listed within this job description. The Quantity Surveyor is expected to:

  • Achieve forecast figures for turnover, profit, and income.
  • Production of accurate internal accounts and internal/external reports/audits.
  • Production of accurate cost and forecasting information.
  • Manage change control system.
  • Manage prompt placement and payment of sub-contracts. Maintenance of sub-contract KPI reports.
  • Maintain Professional Development Log.

Person Specification

Essential

Qualifications and Training

  • Degree educated or HND/HNC equivalent or
  • Working towards Professional Qualification, with a view to sit in the short term.

Knowledge

  • Suitable experience working in contracting commercial department preferably within the Energy industry.
  • Knowledge of and ability to interpret construction industry conditions of contract.

Skills and abilities

  • Proficient in Microsoft packages (Excel).
