Job Description
Senior Quantity Surveyor – Rail / Civil Engineering
Location: Leeds (Shipley)
Are you an experienced Quantity Surveyor ready to step up, or an established Senior QS looking for your next major project? Our client is working with a leading UK infrastructure contractor to recruit a Senior Quantity Surveyor to play a key role on the high-profile Transpennine Route Upgrade. This is a fantastic opportunity to join a business with a long-standing reputation for delivering complex rail and civil engineering projects across the UK and beyond.
The Role
As Senior Quantity Surveyor, you will take ownership of commercial delivery on a major rail programme, ensuring robust cost management and contractual compliance while supporting and developing junior team members. Key responsibilities include:

- Leading commercial activities across the project lifecycle
- Managing cost control, change management, and contract administration (NEC)
- Preparing valuations, applications for payment, and cost reports
- Overseeing subcontractor procurement, payments, and final accounts
- Identifying risks, opportunities, and value engineering initiatives
- Building strong relationships with clients and key stakeholders
- Mentoring and developing junior commercial staff civil engineering and/or rail (rail experience highly desirable)

Requirements
- Experience at Senior QS level or ready to step up
- Knowledge of NEC contracts and standard methods of measurement
- Working towards or already chartered (RICS/ICES preferred)
- Strong commercial acumen with excellent communication and negotiation skills
- Full UK driving licence and willingness to travel as required
