We are currently working in partnership with our client, a well-established property and construction consultancy based in Sidcup, who are recruiting for a Quantity Surveyor on a permanent basis.

Depending on experience, the salary guide is £45,000 - £60,000 per annum. The ideal candidate will have a minimum of three years' relevant professional consultancy experience, with strong Quantity Surveying experience and previous exposure to public sector projects (MRICS is preferred).

The successful candidate will play an active role in the delivery of projects across London and the South East, without the requirement to commute into central London. Projects will range from £500,000 to £40 million across both pre- and post-contract stages.

Duties

  • Preparing cost estimates in accordance with NRM1
  • Managing procurement and tendering processes
  • Working with the JCT suite of contracts
  • Managing a varied portfolio of projects, including education schemes from primary schools through to universities and SEN schools
  • Working on local authority residential projects, including new builds and refurbishments
  • Working on a range of refurbishment projects, including recently appointed theatre refurbishment schemes
  • Supporting projects involving the upgrade of playgrounds and outdoor spaces for local authority clients
  • Working across emerging retrofit and cladding opportunities, where relevant experience would be advantageous
  • Identifying and managing commercial risks
  • Supporting projects through both pre- and post-contract stages
  • Preparing commercial reports and providing financial advice
  • Identifying areas of commercial opportunity and supporting future business development

Experience Required

  • Minimum of 3 years' relevant professional consultancy experience
  • Strong Quantity Surveying experience
  • Previous experience delivering public sector projects
  • Experience across both pre- and post-contract stages
  • Experience working on education, local authority, residential, refurbishment or regeneration projects would be advantageous
  • Experience of retrofit and/or cladding projects would be beneficial
  • Experience working with the JCT suite of contracts
  • MRICS qualification is preferred
  • Experience using measurement software such as CostX or similar is desirable

Skills, Knowledge and Expertise Required

  • Strong understanding of cost estimating to NRM1 standard
  • Excellent procurement and tendering knowledge
  • Strong project financial control and reporting skills
  • Good understanding of risk management
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Excellent organisational and time management skills
  • Proactive approach to problem solving
  • Ability to work to tight deadlines and use initiative
  • Strong IT skills, including Microsoft Word and Excel
  • Commercial awareness and ability to identify future opportunities
  • Commitment to delivering excellent client service
  • Full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle is desirable
