Quantity Surveyor

Location: Northallerton or Otley, with hybrid working
Contract: Permanent, Full-time

Benefits

  • 25 days’ holiday per year, plus bank holidays

We are an award-winning building design consultancy, recently named Regional Energy Consultancy and Regional New Build Project of the Year for our work with Darlington Borough Council at the North East Energy Efficiency Awards, where it was recognised as national best practice.

About Us

My client is a limited company, wholly owned by North Yorkshire Council. We are one of the largest multi-discipline building design consultancies in the North of England. We are collaborative in the way we work, offering a broad range of services in Architecture, Sustainability, Building Surveying, Project Management, Civil & Structural, Transport Planning, Bridges, Highways & Drainage Engineering, Mechanical & Electrical Engineering, Quantity Surveying, CDM, Property Advisory & Estate Management.

We are dynamic and diverse in our approach to projects, from valuing small gardens to multi-million-pound listed structures including schools, fire stations, care homes and other public and commercial buildings across the UK. 2024 was one of our busiest years yet, with the development of exciting new projects with North Yorkshire Council and other public and private sector clients, it is an exciting time to join us as we continue to evolve in 2025.

Role Overview

As a Quantity Surveyor, you will use your experience and knowledge of best practice to manage projects through their entire lifecycle. This includes preparing estimates, cost plans and tender documentation using various forms of measurement and contracts. You will administer and provide advice on contracts, typically JCT and NEC, as well collaborating with other teams who are part of a discipline workforce.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
