Quantity Surveyor – Worcester

Location: Worcester

Salary: Competitive, dependent on experience

Employment Type: Permanent, Full-time

Sector: Construction / Social Housing / Property Maintenance

The Opportunity

We are currently recruiting on behalf of an established contractor for an experienced Quantity Surveyor to join their commercial team in Worcester.

This is an excellent opportunity for a commercially focused Quantity Surveyor with experience in construction, social housing, repairs and maintenance or refurbishment who is looking for a new challenge with a well-established organisation.

The successful candidate will be responsible for managing the commercial performance of projects and contracts, ensuring works are delivered within budget while maximising commercial performance and maintaining strong relationships with clients, subcontractors and suppliers.

The Role

As Quantity Surveyor, you will play a key role in managing the commercial aspects of projects from pre-contract through to final account.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Managing the commercial performance of allocated projects and contracts.
  • Preparing and reviewing valuations, applications for payment and final accounts.
  • Managing variations, valuations and compensation events where applicable.
  • Preparing and monitoring project budgets and forecasts.
  • Managing costs and identifying potential commercial risks and opportunities.
  • Reviewing subcontractor and supplier quotations.
  • Procuring subcontractors and materials where required.
  • Preparing, issuing and managing subcontract orders.
  • Monitoring subcontractor performance and payments.
  • Reviewing project costs against budgets and forecasts.
  • Working closely with operational teams to ensure commercial targets are achieved.
  • Liaising with clients and stakeholders regarding commercial matters.
  • Preparing regular commercial reports for senior management.
  • Identifying opportunities to improve profitability and minimise costs.
  • Ensuring contractual obligations and commercial procedures are followed.
  • Supporting the resolution of contractual and commercial issues.
  • Maintaining accurate commercial records and project documentation.
  • Assisting with tenders, pricing and new work opportunities where required.

About You

We are looking for an experienced Quantity Surveyor with a strong commercial background within construction or property maintenance.

You will ideally have:

  • Previous experience working as a Quantity Surveyor or in a similar commercial role.
  • Experience within construction, social housing, repairs and maintenance or refurbishment.
  • Strong commercial awareness and financial management skills.
  • Experience managing subcontractors and supply chains.
  • Good knowledge of construction contracts and commercial processes.
  • Experience with valuations, variations, forecasting and final accounts.
  • Excellent numerical and analytical skills.
  • Strong negotiation and communication skills.
  • Excellent organisational and time-management abilities.
  • The confidence to challenge costs and commercial decisions when required.
  • Good IT skills, particularly Microsoft Excel and relevant commercial/project management systems.
  • A relevant Quantity Surveying or commercial qualification would be advantageous.
