Quantity Surveyor – Residential Groundworks
Nottingham | Full-time, Permanent
Competitive salary and package, dependent on experience
About Us
Hilliard Civil Engineering (Nottingham) Ltd is looking for a Quantity Surveyor to join our commercial team. We are an established groundwork and civil engineering subcontractor delivering roads, sewers, infrastructure, and housing plot works for major residential developers across the region.
About the Role
This is a hands-on commercial role suited to someone who understands subcontract groundworks and is comfortable managing projects from initial procurement through to final account.
Key Responsibilities
- Preparing and submitting monthly valuations
- Identifying, pricing, and agreeing variations
- Managing subcontractor accounts and payments
- Monitoring project costs, forecasts, and profitability
- Producing monthly cost-value reconciliations
- Reviewing drawings, specifications, and contract information
- Supporting procurement of subcontractors and materials
- Attending client and internal commercial meetings
- Managing contractual notices, contra-charges, and commercial correspondence
- Working closely with site teams to ensure all completed work is properly recorded and recovered
- Agreeing final accounts with clients and subcontractors

What We’re Looking For
- Previous Quantity Surveying experience within groundworks, civil engineering, or residential construction
- Good knowledge of roads, sewers, and housing plot works
- Strong Excel, measurement, and commercial reporting skills
- Confident managing valuations, variations, and subcontract accounts
- Commercially aware, organized, and comfortable taking ownership
- Able to build effective working relationships with clients, site teams, and suppliers
- Relevant commercial or construction qualification preferred, although practical experience is equally important
- Full UK driving licence
