About Us
We're Standage & Co, an established refurbishment Main Contractor based in Peckham, SE London.
We're a relatively small team that likes to punch above its weight, and we're looking for a good, rounded Quantity Surveyor to join us.
Our work is predominantly refurbishment and construction within existing buildings, across housing, education and commercial sectors. It's varied, often interesting and sometimes complicated – which is part of what we enjoy about it.
The Role
We're looking for someone with solid main-contractor refurbishment experience who is comfortable across both pre and post-contract work.
Depending on what we're working on, you might be pricing and putting together a tender, procuring subcontract packages or commercially managing a live project through to final account.
That's quite deliberate. We want someone who enjoys the breadth of quantity surveying and understands the whole commercial journey of a project rather than being confined to one particular part of it.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.
Start with a chat, not a search bar
Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

Why you're a good match
You’ve got the grades and the economics background, and your bank internship is exactly the experience this scheme looks for. Apply soon — deadlines close within the month.
Experience fit
Your summer at the bank plus your econometrics coursework map directly to the day-one responsibilities on this scheme — client modelling, market briefings, and deal support.
Only hits
No noise. No "maybe this fits." Just roles with a clear explanation of why they're right — and where to focus when applying.
We're not going to give you a huge list of everything a QS does. If you're an experienced QS, you'll already have a pretty good idea.
On the pre-contract side, you'll be involved in measuring and pricing works, building up rates, obtaining and reviewing subcontractor quotations, identifying risks and opportunities and helping us put together sensible, competitive tenders.
On live projects, you'll be involved in procurement, valuations, variations, CVRs and forecasting, cost control, subcontract accounts, contractual matters and final accounts.
Who We're Hoping to Find
More than anything, we're looking for someone who takes pride in what they do.
Someone commercially curious, organised and dependable. Someone who can work at a decent pace while remaining accurate, who asks sensible questions and follows things through.
We place a lot of value on doing the simple things well.
You'll need relevant main-contractor refurbishment experience, be comfortable with JCT contracts and have the ability to measure, build up rates and genuinely price construction work.

Experience of NHF Schedule of Rates and other SOR-based pricing would be particularly useful to us.
We're a small business with a fairly flat structure, so you'll work directly with our Contracts Managers and Directors rather than through layers of management. We like giving people responsibility, don't particularly enjoy micromanaging them and want people to feel comfortable contributing their own ideas and experience.
We're also a sociable team and place a lot of importance on good relationships – with each other, our clients and our supply chain.

Rather than just clicking Easy Apply, send us a short note about yourself and why you think we'd be a good fit together, along with your CV, to jobs@standage.co.uk.
We'd be pleased to hear from you.
