The Role
We're looking for a Quantity Surveyor to join our team at Unite Group and help deliver a range of exciting capital projects, from cladding remediation to estate improvements.
Reporting to the Head of Commercial, you'll play a key role in managing project costs, budgets, contractor relationships and procurement, ensuring projects are delivered efficiently and offer value for money.
This is a great opportunity to use your commercial expertise, work with a variety of stakeholders and make a real difference to the quality, safety and future of our estate.
What You'll Be Doing
- Providing initial cost advice on potential opportunities and new projects.
- Preparing cost plans and setting project budgets.
- Managing project costs from the early planning stages through to completion.
- Identifying and managing risks, ensuring costs are accurate to support funding requests.
- Managing on-site project costs, including reporting, cost control, cash flow, value engineering and final accounts.
- Preparing tender documents and managing contractor and supplier relationships.
- Negotiating construction contracts and overseeing contractual documents, including bonds, warranties and retentions.
- Agreeing final accounts within approved budgets.
- Supporting cost benchmarking to improve value for money across projects.
- Helping resolve existing issues, defects and claims.
- Demonstrating Unite's values and supporting key business initiatives, including net zero carbon, diversity and inclusion, and Homes for Success.

What We're Looking For In You
- Experience in a Quantity Surveying role, ideally within student accommodation or the Build to Rent sector.
- RICS or CIOB qualified, or working towards a qualification (desirable).
- Strong communication, negotiation and influencing skills, with confidence presenting in meetings.
- Good numerical skills and IT proficiency.
- Able to manage competing priorities, work at pace and maintain accuracy and attention to detail.
- A positive, flexible and collaborative approach, with a focus on delivering excellent customer and stakeholder experiences.
- Self-motivated, with the ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Willingness to learn, develop new skills and take on new challenges.
- Strong relationship-building skills, with the ability to influence internal and external stakeholders.
- Willingness to travel across the UK and hold a full driving licence.
