The UK's transition to a cleaner, more resilient energy network is driving unprecedented investment in electricity infrastructure. At Mitie Power & Grid, we're delivering major projects that will help power the future of the UK, including grid connections, battery energy storage systems (BESS), substations, cable infrastructure, and network reinforcement works.
We're looking for a motivated Quantity Surveyor to join our growing Major Projects team and support the successful delivery of high-value infrastructure projects across the UK. Whether your experience comes from power, utilities, civil engineering, rail, highways, water, M&E, or the wider construction sector, this is an exciting opportunity to develop your commercial career in a business operating at the forefront of the energy transition. Working within a hybrid environment, you'll be part of a collaborative team supporting project delivery from pre-construction through to final account, gaining exposure to complex projects, experienced commercial professionals, and major UK infrastructure programmes.
As a Quantity Surveyor, you will support the commercial management of major projects throughout their lifecycle, helping to ensure projects are delivered safely, efficiently, and profitably. You will work closely with Project Managers, Engineers, Planners, clients, and supply chain partners to manage costs, administer contracts, support change management, and maintain strong commercial controls. The role offers an excellent opportunity to develop within a growing business and build a long-term career within the Power & Grid sector.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.
