Quantity Surveyor | Highways & Civil Engineering
Location: Somerset / Devon Border Region (Projects Across Bristol to Exeter)
Salary: £45,000 - £52,000 + Company Car + Comprehensive Benefits Package
A leading infrastructure contractor is looking to appoint a Quantity Surveyor to support the delivery of a portfolio of highways and civil engineering projects across the South West.
Working across multiple schemes valued between £1m and £12m, you'll play a key role in the commercial success of projects that improve local infrastructure, enhance transport networks, and support regional growth.
This is an excellent opportunity for an ambitious Quantity Surveyor who enjoys taking ownership, working independently, and being trusted to make decisions. Unlike many roles where commercial responsibilities are heavily managed, you'll be given genuine autonomy and the opportunity to develop the skills and experience needed to progress quickly into a Senior Quantity Surveyor position.
The role would suit someone based between Bristol and Exeter.
The Role
Reporting into the commercial leadership team, you'll take responsibility for the day-to-day commercial management of several projects, working closely with operational teams to ensure strong commercial performance across your portfolio.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
