Project Quantity Surveyor

Bedford, Bedfordshire (Office Based with Site Visits)
£55,000 - £65,000 + Bonus + Private Healthcare + Pension

A well-established and financially secure main contractor is looking to recruit a Project Quantity Surveyor to join its growing commercial team based in Bedford. The company delivers a mixture of refurbishment, fit-out, extension and new build projects across the public and private sectors and has built an excellent reputation for quality, repeat business and staff retention.

The Role

Based from the Bedford office, you'll manage the commercial aspects of 2-3 projects simultaneously, with project values typically ranging from £500,000 to £2 million.

Your primary project will be a £2 million Civic Centre Refurbishment in Runnymede, comprising:

  • Library refurbishment
  • Police station refurbishment
  • Council offices refurbishment

In addition, you'll be commercially responsible for two further projects in Kensington & Chelsea, involving commercial centre and external works projects. These schemes are predominantly local authority-funded and delivered under JCT contracts.

The role is office-based with regular site visits, providing a good balance between commercial management and project involvement on site.

Key Responsibilities

  • Procurement of subcontract packages
  • Preparing and issuing subcontract orders
  • Managing subcontractor accounts
  • Processing subcontractor valuations and applications for payment
  • Preparing and submitting client valuations
  • Managing variations and change control
  • Cost reporting and forecasting
  • Final account preparation and negotiation
  • Commercial management of projects from inception through to completion
  • Working closely with operational teams to ensure successful project delivery

You may currently be working as a:

  • Quantity Surveyor
  • Project Quantity Surveyor
  • Intermediate Quantity Surveyor
  • Assistant Quantity Surveyor looking for the next step

Experience in procurement, valuations, variations and subcontractor management is highly desirable.

A construction-related qualification is not essential. The company values practical experience, commercial awareness, attitude and a willingness to learn just as highly as formal qualifications.
