I'm delighted to be partnering with a leading North East housing association as they look to appoint an experienced Quantity Surveyor to join their growing Assets & Property team.
This is an exciting opportunity to play a key role in the delivery of a £121m investment programme that will improve homes, communities and neighbourhoods across the region as part of an ambitious 2026-2031 corporate strategy.
If you're a commercially astute Quantity Surveyor with experience of contract administration, cost control and project delivery within construction, housing or property maintenance environments, this role offers the opportunity to make a genuine social impact while developing your career within a highly respected organisation.
The Opportunity
Reporting to the Commercial/Programme Manager, you will be responsible for delivering the day-to-day quantity surveying function across planned investment and asset management programmes.
You will work closely with internal teams, contractors and consultants to ensure commercial performance is effectively managed, contracts are administered correctly and projects are delivered in line with budget, quality and compliance requirements.
Key Responsibilities
- Managing valuations, certifications, variations and final accounts across a range of planned investment programmes.
- Supporting contract administration and ensuring compliance with contractual obligations, financial regulations and relevant construction legislation.
- Monitoring project cost performance, cashflow and programme delivery, identifying risks and supporting mitigation strategies.
- Conducting site visits and inspections to assess work in progress, commercial performance and project outcomes.
- Assisting in the preparation of tender documentation, pricing schedules and procurement activities.
- Supporting the delivery of value for money initiatives and maximising social value outcomes.
- Building strong relationships with contractors, consultants and key stakeholders.
- Contributing to service improvements, process efficiencies and best practice across the asset management function.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
