Quantity Surveyor / Commercial Assistant
Location: St Albans, Hertfordshire Salary: Competitive, depending on experience Job Type: Full-Time, Permanent
We are currently recruiting on behalf of an established, family-run construction and fit-out business with over 50 years of experience delivering high-quality commercial and workplace projects.
They are looking for a Quantity Surveyor / Commercial Assistant to join their Operations team. This is an excellent opportunity for someone with 1–3 years' experience looking to develop their commercial career within a live project environment.
The Role:
Working closely with Project Managers and the Operations team, you will provide commercial support across live projects, with responsibilities including:

- Assisting with project budgets, cost control, and forecasting
- Monitoring costs and identifying commercial variances
- Supporting procurement of subcontractors and suppliers
- Preparing RFQs, analysing quotations, and assisting with negotiations
- Managing subcontractor orders, valuations, and payments
- Supporting variations and final accounts
- Maintaining accurate commercial records and reporting
- Identifying commercial risks and opportunities
- Using systems including Procore
The ideal candidate will have:
- 1–3 years' experience in Quantity Surveying or a similar commercial role
- Construction, fit-out, or related industry experience
- Good understanding of commercial management principles
- Strong numerical and analytical skills
- Excellent attention to detail and organization
- Good communication and interpersonal skills
- A proactive attitude and willingness to learn
- Ideally, a relevant Quantity Surveying or construction qualification
