Quantity Surveyor | Refurbishment | Heritage | Main Contractor

An established and highly respected main contractor is looking to appoint a mid-level Quantity Surveyor to join its growing commercial team in South East London.

With over 85 years of trading history, this contractor has built an outstanding reputation for delivering high-quality refurbishment and construction projects across London and the South East. They specialise in complex, technically challenging schemes within live and occupied environments, combining traditional craftsmanship with modern construction methods.

This is an excellent opportunity for a Quantity Surveyor who enjoys variety, technical projects, and working within a collaborative, supportive team.

Quantity Surveyor Role Description:

Reporting into the Senior Commercial team, you will take commercial responsibility for one or multiple projects from pre-construction through to final account.

Responsibilities will include:

  • Preparing cost plans, budgets and forecasts
  • Procurement of subcontract packages
  • Tender analysis and subcontract negotiations
  • Managing valuations and payment applications
  • Cost reporting and CVRs
  • Variations, change control and compensation events
  • Managing subcontractor accounts
  • Final account negotiation and agreement
  • Working closely with operational teams to maximise project profitability
  • Supporting risk management and commercial strategy

This role offers exposure to interesting and technically challenging projects rather than repetitive new-build housing schemes.

Quantity Surveyor Candidate Requirements:

We are keen to speak with Quantity Surveyors who have experience working for a:

  • Main contractor
  • Refurbishment specialist
  • Fit-out contractor
  • Heritage / restoration contractor
  • Specialist subcontractor (with strong commercial exposure)

Ideal background:

  • 3-6+ years Quantity Surveying experience
  • Good understanding of JCT contracts
  • Refurbishment or construction project experience
  • Strong commercial awareness
  • Confident communicator with subcontractors and clients
  • Organised and proactive approach
  • Degree qualified or equivalent preferred (not essential)

Experience in refurbishment, heritage, live environment or structural repair projects would be highly advantageous.
