Quantity Surveyor

We are looking for a motivated and ambitious Quantity Surveyor to join our team, supporting the delivery of a diverse portfolio of projects within a long-term infrastructure framework. This is an excellent opportunity to become part of a well-established team delivering essential works through both Early Contractor Involvement (ECI) and construction phases.

Working within a secure programme of works extending through to 2030, with further opportunities anticipated beyond this period, you will play a key role in the commercial management of projects from design development through to delivery. You will gain exposure to a wide range of commercial activities while developing your skills and taking on increasing levels of responsibility.

Reporting to the Senior Quantity Surveyor, you will support the successful commercial delivery of projects, helping to ensure costs are effectively managed, commercial risks are controlled, and project objectives are achieved. Role Responsibilities

  • Support the commercial management of projects throughout ECI, design, procurement, and delivery phases.
  • Assist in the preparation and management of Applications for Payment (AFPs).
  • Support forecasting, budgeting, and cost reporting activities.
  • Manage supplier and subcontractor payment processes in accordance with contractual requirements.
  • Administer subcontract packages, ensuring compliance with company procedures and contract obligations.
  • Support the management of NEC contracts, including Early Warning Notices (EWNs), Compensation Events (CEs) and associated quotations.
  • Assist with the development and management of target costs.
  • Monitor project costs and identify opportunities to improve commercial performance.
  • Support change management processes and help mitigate commercial risks.
  • Prepare and maintain accurate commercial records and reports.
  • Work closely with project teams to support successful project delivery.
  • Contribute to the recovery of project costs and the effective management of project finances.
  • Build and maintain positive relationships with clients, suppliers, and project stakeholders.
  • Ensure compliance with company policies, procedures, and industry best practice.

Skills, Experience And Qualifications

  • Degree qualified in Quantity Surveying, Commercial Management, or a related discipline.
  • Professional membership with RICS (MRICS) is desirable.
  • Experience working in a Quantity Surveying role within civil engineering, infrastructure, utilities, or construction environments.
  • Experience supporting the commercial management of projects from pre-construction through to delivery.
  • Knowledge of NEC contracts and associated commercial processes, including Early Warning Notices, Compensation Events and change management.
  • Experience with subcontractor management and administration.
  • Strong commercial awareness and understanding of cost management principles.
  • Experience preparing forecasts, valuations, cost reports, and commercial documentation.
  • Ability to analyse commercial data and provide accurate reporting.
  • Effective communication and stakeholder management skills.
  • Good negotiation and problem-solving abilities.
  • Experience using COINS or similar commercial management systems would be advantageous.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel.
  • Full UK driving licence.
  • Ability to work collaboratively within a fast-paced project environment.

About the Water|Highways Business Unit
