Assistant Pre-Construction Manager
Location: London (Water Street & Broadgate offices) with travel to client retail sites across the UK
Contract: 12 Months (Potential Extension or Permanent Conversion)
Rate: £200 a day
Start Date: ASAP
Hours: 40 hours per week (Hybrid working, typically 3 days in the office)
About the Role
Seeking an Assistant Pre-Construction Manager to join its growing Retail team. This is an excellent opportunity for a graduate-calibre construction professional with experience in pre-construction, estimating, quantity surveying, or design and build projects.
Working closely with the Head of Commercial, Business Development, Design, and Delivery teams, you will take ownership of projects throughout the pre-construction phase, supporting the successful pricing, planning, and delivery of retail fit-out and refurbishment projects for major clients.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage pre-construction activities from tender stage through to project handover.
- Develop project scopes, programmes, cost plans, and tender submissions.
- Support and lead client meetings, tender presentations, and commercial negotiations.
- Prepare and analyse cost plans, Bills of Quantities, subcontractor packages, and tender returns.
- Manage and coordinate the supply chain tender process.
- Work closely with Design, Commercial, and Build teams to ensure commercially viable solutions.
- Produce bid documentation, logistics plans, construction methodologies, and project delivery proposals.
- Support contract preparation, project mobilisation, and internal handover processes.
- Assist with commercial management and reporting throughout project delivery.
- Maintain accurate project records and ensure compliance with internal processes and industry regulations.

Requirements
Essential
- Experience within Pre-Construction, Estimating, Quantity Surveying, or Design & Build environments.
- Strong commercial awareness and numerical skills.
- Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Excel.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
- Experience preparing cost plans, tender submissions, and analysing subcontractor quotations.
- Ability to manage multiple deadlines and projects simultaneously.
- Experience working within construction, fit-out, or refurbishment projects.
Preferred
- Experience within retail fit-out projects.
- Knowledge of JCT contracts.
- Experience using:
- MS Project or Asta Powerproject
- Specialist take-off software
- AutoDesk (desirable)
- Relevant Construction, Quantity Surveying, Commercial Management, or Built Environment qualification.
