Quantity Surveyor
Location: Manchester/hybrid, with site attendance dependent on project
Hours: 36.5 hours per week, including an early Friday finish
Salary: Competitive, dependent on experience
Working-away package: £28,800 annual allowance, + car scheme plus a 15% salary uplift on qualifying assignments
The opportunity
Morson Talent is working exclusively with a specialist UK engineering and delivery business to recruit Quantity Surveyors for major infrastructure, energy, and engineering projects.
This is an opportunity to join an established organization with more than 150 years of engineering heritage and a track record of contributing to some of the UK's most demanding safety-critical programmes. Current opportunities include flagship projects such as Hinkley Point C, Sizewell, and HS2.
You do not need to arrive with extensive NEC experience. Applications are welcomed from capable Quantity Surveyors with a strong JCT background who want to develop their NEC contract-management capability. The business will provide the training and project exposure required to make that transition.
The role offers a 36.5-hour working week, an early finish on Fridays, and flexibility around hybrid working from the company's Bury office. Certain assignments require three nights away each week and attract an additional £28,800 annual allowance plus a 15% uplift on base salary.
The role
As Quantity Surveyor, you will take front-line commercial responsibility for assigned projects from mobilization through to final account.
Working alongside Project Managers, commercial leadership, operational teams, and manufacturing colleagues, you will control project costs, manage contractual change, protect commercial entitlements, and provide accurate reporting throughout the project lifecycle.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
