Quantity Surveyor – 3 Month Contract
Location: Northallerton (DL7 8UQ)
Rate: £33.82 per hour (Umbrella)
Contract: 3 Month Contract
Hours: Full Time
Pay: Bi-weekly
Summary
We are looking for a skilled Quantity Surveyor to join NY Highways for a 3-month contract, focusing on the commercial management of highways and infrastructure projects. This role is crucial in ensuring the financial and contractual success of projects, working closely with various stakeholders to deliver projects efficiently and profitably. You will manage all commercial aspects, including cost control, forecasting, and risk management, ensuring alignment with contractual requirements.
Responsibilities
- Oversee the commercial performance of projects from start to finish.
- Develop cost forecasts, cost/value reconciliations, and profitability reports.
- Administer contracts and subcontracts, handling payment mechanisms and change control.
- Prepare and evaluate applications for payment, interim valuations, and final accounts.
- Assess compensation events, contractual claims, and variations.
- Identify and mitigate commercial and contractual risks.
- Support procurement activities and manage the supply chain.
- Negotiate subcontractor accounts and contractual issues.
- Monitor project budgets and ensure effective cost control.
- Review and assess delays, disruptions, and extension of time claims.
- Provide contractual advice and prepare related correspondence.
- Ensure compliance with company policies, procedures, and industry standards.
- Collaborate with project teams, finance, procurement, legal, and operational departments.

Essential Requirements
- Proven experience as a Quantity Surveyor in construction, highways, civil engineering, or infrastructure projects.
- Strong commercial and contract management skills.
- Experience in:
- Cost forecasting and reporting
- Change management
- Compensation events
- Final accounts
- Risk management
- Procurement and subcontract management
- Good understanding of NEC and/or JCT contracts.
- Experience managing project costs and budgets.
- Strong negotiation and stakeholder management skills.
- Excellent analytical and commercial awareness.
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities.

Desirable Requirements
- Degree in Quantity Surveying or related discipline.
- MRICS, MCICES, or working towards professional accreditation.
- Experience in highways, infrastructure, or public sector projects.
- Experience working on NEC contracts.
