About The Role
Join Balfour Beatty's Regional Civils team as a Quantity Surveyor and play a key role in delivering the landmark North Hykeham Relief Road project in Lincolnshire. This major infrastructure scheme will complete the final section of the Lincoln radial ring road, creating a new 8km dual carriageway linking the A46 west of Lincoln with the A15 at Sleaford Road, significantly enhancing connectivity across the region.
This is an exciting opportunity to develop your commercial career on a complex and high-profile civil engineering project that includes major earthworks, highways construction, and the delivery of five new structures. These include a striking 100m three-span bridge crossing the River Witham, alongside the Station Road Overbridge, Wath Lane Accommodation Bridge, Viking Way Footbridge, and a dedicated Bat Bridge, as well as multiple new junctions connecting to the existing local road network.
As a Quantity Surveyor, you will support the commercial management of the project, helping to maximise value, manage risk, and ensure commercial objectives are achieved throughout the construction lifecycle. Working closely with the wider project and commercial teams, you will gain exposure to all aspects of quantity surveying on a flagship infrastructure scheme, while contributing to a project that will leave a lasting legacy for the people and communities of Lincolnshire. What you'll be doing
- Supporting the management of all commercial and contractual aspects of the North Hykeham Relief Road project, from cost planning through to final account settlement.
- Assisting with the control and reporting of project costs to help ensure the successful commercial delivery of this major highways and infrastructure scheme.
- Helping to maximise value for money while maintaining the highest standards of quality, safety and operational performance.
- Preparing and administering subcontract packages, including valuations, variations and compensation events.
- Monitoring project budgets, tracking cost performance and identifying commercial risks and opportunities as they arise.
- Producing accurate cost reports, forecasts and commercial documentation to support effective project decision-making.
- Working closely with site and operational teams to ensure commercial objectives are aligned with programme, delivery and client requirements.
- Supporting the management of client, subcontractor and stakeholder relationships, helping to resolve commercial matters in a timely and professional manner.
- Assisting the Commercial Manager and Managing Quantity Surveyor with the implementation of the project's commercial strategy and contractual obligations.
- Preparing and reviewing applications for payment, subcontractor accounts and final accounts in accordance with project requirements.
- Contributing to the management of change, ensuring all commercial records are maintained accurately and contractual entitlements are captured.
- Supporting compliance with Balfour Beatty's commercial processes, governance procedures and reporting requirements.
- Collaborating with the wider project team to help deliver successful outcomes for the client, stakeholders and local community.
- Continuously developing your commercial, contractual and technical knowledge while gaining experience on one of Lincolnshire's most significant civil engineering projects.

Who we're looking for
- Degree qualified with a BSc or MSc in Quantity Surveying, Commercial Management or a related discipline.
- Working towards, or keen to achieve, professional membership with RICS, ICES or CIOB.
- Previous experience as a Quantity Surveyor, Assistant Quantity Surveyor or within a commercial role on civil engineering, highways or major infrastructure projects.
- A good understanding of NEC contracts and their practical application within a construction environment.
- Experience supporting the management of project costs, valuations, variations, compensation events and final accounts.
- Ability to assist with forecasting, budgeting and commercial reporting to support successful project delivery.
- Strong relationship-building skills, with the ability to work effectively with clients, subcontractors, stakeholders and multidisciplinary project teams.
- A collaborative approach and willingness to learn from experienced commercial professionals while contributing positively to the wider team.
- Commercially aware, detail-focused and capable of identifying potential risks and opportunities across a project lifecycle.
- Excellent communication and negotiation skills, with the confidence to engage professionally with both internal and external stakeholders.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, with the capability to make informed commercial decisions based on project data and contractual requirements.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel, with experience using commercial management and reporting systems being advantageous.
- Self-motivated, organised and capable of managing multiple priorities in a fast-paced project environment.
- A genuine interest in developing a long-term career within quantity surveying and commercial management on major infrastructure projects.
