Role Overview

The role would include a mixture of office and site-based tasks to give you the well-rounded experience required to see schemes from start to finish in highways maintenance. If you prefer hands-on experience, outdoors and teamwork, have a look at the details below.

Wage

  • £22,600 a year
  • Minimum wage rates (opens in new tab)

Training Course

  • Construction quantity surveying technician (level 4)

Hours

  • Monday - Friday between 8.00am - 5.00pm.
  • 40 hours a week.

What You'll Do at Work

  • Commercial understanding of Term Maintenance Contracts
  • Support of change management - Early Warning Notice process, Variations, Remeasurement
  • Support of Supply chain partners assessment and payment
  • Use of commercial management IT systems for measurement and cost
  • Representing Ringway in client facing meetings
  • Processing and management of payment applications
  • Assisting cost management in the weekly cost / value
  • Reconciliation meetings
  • Aiding the QS / Senior QS in the administration of subcontracts

Training Details

What You'll Learn

  • Course Contents:
    • Health and Safety: Apply health and safety issues to all activities.
    • Sustainability: Demonstrate application of the principles of sustainability.
    • Construction Technology: Assist in the implementation of the most appropriate solutions for construction projects.
    • Contracts: Be able to apply different types of contracts to different situations.
    • Procurement: Assist in the selection of and negotiation with specialist contractors for a construction project.
    • Cost control: Assist in the measurement and costing of construction works during a project.
    • Financial reporting: Assist in the preparation of financial reports, cash flow and cost forecasts for a construction project.
    • Administration: Assist in the collection, collation and storage of relevant data and its analysis.

Apprenticeship Details

Desirable Qualifications

  • GCSE in:
    • English (grade 5 or above)
    • Maths (grade 4 or above)
  • A Level in:
    • English (grade 5 or above)

  • BTEC in:
    • Engineering (grade Merit or above)
