Job Summary
We are looking for a Quantity Surveyor / Project Manager to take ownership of civils projects from tender handover through to final account, managing both delivery and commercial performance.
You'll report to the Head of Commercial and work closely with our Operations Managers, site teams, and clients. Our work spans the water and energy sectors, including substations, battery storage sites, and water treatment works, with groundworks, formwork, and reinforced concrete at its core.
This is a hands-on role in a growing business. Unlike larger contractors, you won't be boxed into a narrow function or buried under layers of management. You'll run your projects day to day, spot change early, and have a direct hand in both the programme and the margin.
The role supports projects nationwide and will involve regular travel to site. Hybrid working is supported.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
Project Management
- Lead projects from pre-start through to handover, including programme, resources, plant, and materials, working cross-functionally with operations, procurement, commercial, finance, and client-facing.
- Complete pre-start checks and set projects up on our digital systems.
- Build and maintain programmes, monitor progress, and report to clients weekly.
- Act as the main point of contact for clients, running progress meetings and managing early warnings and RFIs.
- Make sure RAMS, ITPs, permits, and temporary works are in place and followed on site.
- Promote high standards of health, safety, quality, and environmental performance.
- Build up the handover documentation as works progress.

Commercial Management
- Prepare estimates, take-offs, and cost plans for tenders, variations, and live projects.
- Produce monthly CVRs, forecast cost to complete, and report project P&L and margin.
- Identify, notify, and agree compensation events and variations, including under NEC contracts.
- Prepare applications for payment, valuations, and final accounts.
- Manage subcontractor and supplier orders, valuations, and accounts.
- Administer contracts, including payment and pay less notices.
- Maintain accurate commercial records and use our systems to track cost, change, and performance.
Requirements
- Experience as a QS, PM, or in a combined commercial and delivery role within civils or construction.
- A track record of delivering projects to programme and budget.
- Experience producing CVRs and managing margin on live projects.
- Experience identifying and agreeing variations or compensation events.
- Working knowledge of construction contracts, with NEC experience a strong advantage.
- Experience preparing estimates or supporting tender submissions.
- Confident planning and managing programmes and resources across more than one project.
- SMSTS and a CSCS card, or willingness to obtain them.
- Full UK driving license.
- Confident using Excel, Microsoft Projects, and commercial or project systems.
- Degree-qualified or working towards RICS, CIOB, or ICE membership is desirable but not essential.

Desirable Experience
- Water, energy, or utilities projects, such as substations, BESS, or water treatment works.
- NEC3 or NEC4 contracts, from either the contractor or client side.
- Procore for project or commercial management.
- Candy, COINS, Causeway, or similar estimating and commercial software.
- Programming software such as MS Project, Asta, or Primavera P6.
- Temporary works coordination.
- An SME or contractor environment.
