What you’ll be responsible for
- Providing professional, commercial, and cost management of a number of Developer Services projects simultaneously.
- Providing support and advice to a team of project managers and project engineers on all aspects of commercial contract management.
- Assessment of payment applications and prioritising any that are overdue.
- Assessing payment applications from framework contractors to ensure that they are in line with the relevant construction contract.
- Identifying, analysing, and managing project risks, ensuring risks are understood, valued, and correctly allocated.
- Providing advice on early warning notices and compensation events.
- Assisting in the creation of contracts for the construction of Developer Services schemes.
- Undertaking peer reviews to ensure that construction offers made by Developer Services are not exposing DCWW to any undue commercial risk.
- Processing payments following approval of application and resolving any issues that may arise.
- Analysing and managing information from systems such as SAP, BPM, and Teamworks to ensure that policies, reports, and commercial information are accurate and timely.
- Providing an efficient service to DS developers/customers.
- Assisting with the development of policies, general commercial management, and the delivery of services to business customers.
This will include:
- Assessing payment applications to check that they are in accordance with contracts (for example with NEC3).
- Providing contract and commercial advice to Dev Services engineers to help ensure that projects are delivered on time and within agreed cost.
- Interfacing with developers and customers when required. This can be challenging where additional funds are required for settlement.
- Working with engineers to produce cost estimates for proposed work that are comprehensive and auditable.
- Providing reports and information on commercial risk and costing for all requisition and rechargeable projects.
- Working collaboratively with the DS design and build team, capital partners, cost consultants, suppliers, and other departments.
- Ensuring DCWW’s processes, procedures, and guidelines are followed at all times.
- Processing payments to framework and tendered contractors as directed by the Project Owners.
- Assisting the commercial team in monitoring and reviewing relevant water industry legislation and regulation matters and contributing to the drafting/development/adaptation of policies for the DS function as required.
- Supporting the departmental response to regulatory and audit-related queries and requests for information.
- Assisting with data extraction and reporting in response to regulatory enquiries & information requests from the wider business.
- Supporting team members with general commercial/financial tasks and processes.
- Undertaking any other duties as required to meet the needs of the business.

About you
- Qualified to relevant degree level and working towards chartered status.
- An in-depth understanding of the forms of contract used by Developer Services including the various options for the New Engineering Contract and the framework contracts entered into by DCWW.
- Cost and contract management experience in the water industry demonstrating an excellent track record in the commercial management of projects ranging from £5k to £2m.
- Financial/commercial experience.
- Knowledge and experience of Developer Services project lifecycles from developer application to on-site delivery and final account.
- Experience in SAP finance/project management and SRM modules.
- Enthusiastic about putting our customers first every day.
- Good communication skills.
- Understanding of Health and Safety.
- Strong numeracy, spreadsheet, and financial skills.
