Quantity Surveyor Opportunity
An excellent opportunity has arisen for an experienced Quantity Surveyor to join a well-established and highly regarded building contractor based in the New Forest, Hampshire.
About the Company
Our client specialises in delivering high-quality, bespoke construction projects across Hampshire, Dorset, and the surrounding areas, with a particular focus on luxury residential developments, contemporary new-build homes, heritage refurbishments, and specialist commercial projects. Their portfolio includes individually designed private residences, substantial extensions and renovations, sensitive restoration of period and listed buildings, and technically challenging projects incorporating Passivhaus construction principles and detailing.
With a strong reputation for quality workmanship, attention to detail, and repeat business, the company continues to secure an interesting and varied pipeline of projects.
Role Overview
They are now looking to appoint an intermediate-level Quantity Surveyor to join their established team, taking responsibility for the commercial management of projects from pre-construction through to final account.
This is an opportunity to join a close-knit contractor where you will have genuine involvement in projects, work directly with senior management, and play an important role in their continued success.
Quantity Surveyor Responsibilities
- Manage the commercial aspects of construction projects from initial pricing through to final account.
- Undertake measurements and quantity take-offs from drawings and specifications.
- Prepare cost estimates, bills of quantities, budgets, and interim valuations.
- Manage subcontractor procurement, including obtaining quotations, tender comparisons, and appointments.
- Prepare and assess subcontractor applications, valuations, and payments.
- Monitor project costs against budgets, identifying variations and managing commercial risks.
- Prepare regular cost reports and provide updates on project financial performance.
- Manage variations, contractual documentation, and final account negotiations.
- Liaise directly with Site Managers, subcontractors, suppliers, and clients throughout the project lifecycle.
- Maintain accurate commercial records and support the successful delivery of projects within agreed budgets.

Quantity Surveyor Requirements
- Previous experience working as a Quantity Surveyor or experienced Assistant Quantity Surveyor within the construction industry.
- Ideally a background working for a main contractor or regional building contractor.
- Experience across high-end residential, bespoke new builds, refurbishments, heritage, or general building projects would be advantageous.
- Good understanding of subcontractor procurement, cost control, valuations, and final accounts.
- Confident managing commercial responsibilities with a good level of independence.
- Strong numerical ability, attention to detail, and commercial awareness.
- Good communication and organizational skills, with the ability to work closely with both site and office-based teams.
- Competent in Microsoft Excel and relevant commercial software.
- A relevant Quantity Surveying qualification would be advantageous, although practical experience will be equally valued.
- Full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle.

The Opportunity
This is an excellent opportunity for a Quantity Surveyor looking to join a reputable, independently run building contractor delivering a varied portfolio of high-quality construction projects.

Working Hours
