Quantity Surveyor / Assistant Quantity Surveyor

Bristol

Talented people are the key to our success.

We are looking for an ambitious Assistant Quantity Surveyor or early-career Quantity Surveyor to join our commercial team and support the successful delivery of a major rail project.

This is an exciting opportunity to be involved from the mobilisation stage of the project, working within a supportive and experienced five-person commercial team. The role offers exposure to a broad scope of work, providing an excellent platform for learning, development and career progression within a complex infrastructure environment.

Reporting to a Quantity Surveyor or Managing Quantity Surveyor, you will play a key role in supporting the commercial management of track and track civils packages, assisting with subcontract management, change control and day-to-day commercial activities.

About The Role

As part of the commercial team, you will provide essential support in managing project costs, commercial processes and contractual requirements while contributing to the successful delivery of project objectives.

Key Responsibilities

  • Supporting the commercial team in the delivery of track and track civils work packages.
  • Assisting with the administration and management of subcontractors.
  • Supporting the valuation and assessment of subcontractor applications and payments.
  • Assisting in the management and control of project change.
  • Supporting the preparation and submission of client applications.
  • Maintaining accurate commercial records and documentation.
  • Assisting with cost reporting, forecasting and commercial performance analysis.
  • Helping ensure commercial processes are followed in line with contractual requirements.
  • Supporting the identification and management of project risks and opportunities.
  • Contributing to the achievement of project cost and value targets.
  • Working collaboratively with operational, planning and delivery teams.
  • Assisting in producing commercial reports and project performance updates.
  • Supporting the commercial team in achieving optimum project outcomes.

Essential Experience

What We're Looking For

  • Some experience within a commercial, quantity surveying or construction-related role.
  • Understanding of core Quantity Surveying principles and commercial administration.
  • Knowledge of subcontract management and change control processes.
  • Strong numerical, analytical and organisational skills.
  • Good communication and stakeholder management abilities.
  • Ability to work collaboratively as part of a wider project team.

Desirable Experience

  • Experience working for a main contractor or civil engineering contractor.
  • Experience within infrastructure, construction or engineering projects.
  • Rail sector experience is beneficial but not essential as industry-specific knowledge can be developed within the team.

Qualifications

  • Advanced Apprenticeship, A Levels or equivalent qualification.
  • Degree or progression towards a Quantity Surveying qualification would be advantageous but is not essential.
