Location: Bristol / Somerset – South West
Salary: Competitive + Car Allowance

The Opportunity
We are currently recruiting for an experienced Quantity Surveyor / Senior Quantity Surveyor to join an established and growing civil engineering and infrastructure contractor operating across the South West.
This is an excellent opportunity for a commercially focused Quantity Surveyor to take responsibility for the financial and contractual management of live civil engineering projects, working closely with Project Managers, Engineers, clients, subcontractors and the wider commercial team.
For the Senior QS level, you will also have the opportunity to mentor and support junior members of the commercial team and take a leading role in delivering successful project outcomes.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage all commercial activities across assigned civil engineering projects from inception through to completion.
- Work closely with Project Managers and engineering teams to manage project budgets, costs, value and commercial performance.
- Prepare and maintain accurate forecast final costs, margins and project value.
- Identify and manage commercial risks, opportunities and early warnings throughout the project lifecycle.
- Lead the management of change, compensation events and contractual notifications.
- Ensure contractual requirements are understood and managed effectively.
- Manage subcontractor and supplier accounts, including procurement, valuations, payments and change.
- Prepare and manage subcontract agreements aligned with the main contract.
- Develop and maintain procurement and commercial programmes.
- Prepare monthly commercial reports, including forecast positions, secured and unsecured value, risks and contingencies.
- Work collaboratively with clients and their representatives to resolve commercial and contractual matters.
- Support project teams with cost control, value management and commercial decision-making.
- Maintain accurate commercial records and ensure compliance with company and project procedures.
- Support tender and mini-competition processes where required.
- Build strong working relationships with clients, subcontractors, suppliers and internal stakeholders.
- For Senior QS level, provide guidance, mentoring and support to graduate and junior Quantity Surveyors.

About You
We are looking for a commercially strong Quantity Surveyor or Senior Quantity Surveyor with experience working within civil engineering, infrastructure, highways or a related sector.
You will ideally have:
- A BSc in Quantity Surveying or a relevant equivalent qualification.
- Proven experience working as a Quantity Surveyor within civil engineering.
- Strong knowledge of construction contracts, commercial management and contractual processes.
- Good working knowledge of NEC4 contracts.
- Experience managing subcontractors and suppliers.
- Experience with forecasting, cost control, change management and risk.
- Understanding of early warning and compensation event processes.
- Strong negotiation and stakeholder management skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Good Microsoft Office / Office 365 skills.
- Experience with CEMAR, FastDraft or similar project management software would be advantageous.
- A relevant CSCS card.
- RICS or CICES membership, or a desire to work towards professional status, would be advantageous.
- Full UK driving licence and the right to work in the UK.

Senior QS – Additional Requirements
For the Senior Quantity Surveyor level, we're particularly interested in candidates who can demonstrate:
- A strong track record delivering civil engineering projects.
- The ability to lead commercial discussions and influence project teams.
- Experience mentoring or managing junior QSs.
- Strong contractual and legal knowledge.
- The confidence to manage complex commercial issues and negotiate with clients and supply chain partners.
