The Opportunity

An established main contractor is looking to recruit an experienced Project Surveyor to join its team on a £12 million refurbishment and new-build theatre project in central Cambridge. This is an excellent opportunity to take a site-based commercial role on a high-profile, technically challenging project, combining the refurbishment of an existing theatre with new-build elements. You will play a key role in the commercial management of the project, working closely with the site team and reporting directly to the Managing Surveyor.

The successful candidate will have a strong main contracting background, sound commercial awareness and the ability to manage subcontractor packages effectively throughout the project lifecycle.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage the commercial aspects of the project, ensuring costs are controlled and financial targets are achieved.
  • Procure, negotiate and administer subcontractor packages.
  • Prepare and manage subcontractor orders, payments and variations.
  • Undertake regular cost reporting, forecasting and financial analysis.
  • Monitor project expenditure, identify commercial risks and implement appropriate mitigation measures.
  • Manage valuations, applications for payment and final accounts.
  • Assess variations, compensation events and change control in line with contractual requirements.
  • Work closely with the Project Manager, site team and Managing Surveyor to ensure effective commercial and operational delivery.
  • Maintain accurate commercial records and provide regular financial updates.
  • Support the successful delivery of the project in line with programme, quality and budgetary requirements.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
