Quantity Surveyor – Structural Steel

💼 Permanent | Full Time
Steel doesn't leave a fabrication yard as a finished product by accident.
Every tonne has been priced, measured, ordered, fabricated and ultimately paid for, and this is the role that makes sure the commercial side of that equation adds up.
As Quantity Surveyor, you'll sit at the centre of major structural steel projects, working alongside Project Managers, Estimators and the fabrication team to protect margin, control costs and make sure the business is paid for the work it delivers.
The Role
You'll be involved from tender through to final account.
- Review drawings and steelwork packages
- Produce quantities and valuations
- Manage variations
- Keep a close eye on where projects are heading commercially
When additional work is instructed, you'll make sure it is identified, valued and recovered rather than disappearing into the job.

You'll also monitor subcontract costs, forecast final accounts and cash flow, and flag commercial risks early enough for the project team to do something about them.
This isn't a role where you'll be watching spreadsheets from a distance.
You'll be working closely with the people actually delivering the steel, understanding what is being fabricated, what is happening on site and how that translates into commercial performance.
What You'll Bring
- Quantity Surveying experience within structural steel, steel fabrication or specialist construction
- Ability to read fabrication drawings and accurately measure steelwork packages
- Experience with variations, valuations, final accounts and subcontract management
- Working knowledge of NEC or JCT-style contracts
- Strong numerical and commercial awareness
- Confidence to challenge costs and protect value while maintaining good working relationships
- A practical understanding of how fabrication and construction projects are delivered
