Quantity Surveyor / Senior Quantity Surveyor

Location: South Manchester
Salary: Up to £75,000 depending on experience
Package: Car allowance + benefits
Working Pattern: Monday to Friday, predominantly office based
Job Type: Permanent

The Opportunity

UK Staffing Group are working exclusively with a rapidly growing specialist contractor in South Manchester to appoint a Quantity Surveyor / Senior Quantity Surveyor.

This is an opportunity to join a business delivering technically complex projects across pharmaceuticals, life sciences, laboratories, advanced manufacturing, and other critical environments.

What makes this role different is the level of commercial involvement. You won't be joining a huge commercial department where your role is simply to report figures. You'll work closely with Project Managers and technical teams, becoming a genuine commercial partner throughout the full project lifecycle.

As the business continues to grow and its project pipeline expands, this is a role where the right person can make a visible impact and develop alongside the commercial function.

About the Role

You'll work alongside the Project Management team to take ownership of the commercial side of projects from procurement through to completion.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Managing project costs and maintaining strong commercial control
  • Supporting Project Managers with commercial decision-making
  • Managing risk and protecting project margins
  • Procurement of subcontractors and suppliers
  • Subcontractor management and commercial negotiations
  • Preparing and reviewing valuations and applications for payment
  • Managing variations, change, and commercial entitlement
  • CVR preparation and cost reporting
  • Reviewing contracts and ensuring contractual obligations are managed
  • Supporting project forecasting and financial reporting
  • Managing final accounts
  • Identifying commercial opportunities and potential risks throughout delivery
  • Working closely with Project Managers, site teams, clients, and subcontractors

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

Only hits

No noise. No "maybe this fits." Just roles with a clear explanation of why they're right — and where to focus when applying.

You'll have genuine influence over how projects are commercially delivered, rather than simply reporting on performance after decisions have already been made.

The Projects

You'll be working on specialist, technically challenging projects where commercial understanding and attention to detail really matter.

The business operates across sectors including:

  • Pharmaceutical
  • Life sciences
  • Laboratories
  • Advanced manufacturing
  • Healthcare
  • Other critical and controlled environments

Direct cleanroom experience isn't essential.

The client is open to Quantity Surveyors from technically complex construction and engineering backgrounds who can bring transferable commercial experience.

What We're Looking For

We're particularly interested in Quantity Surveyors who have developed their experience on the contractor side, ideally within technically complex projects.

Experience in one or more of the following would be highly relevant:

  • M&E / MEP
  • Building services
  • HVAC
  • Design & Build
  • Specialist engineering
  • Data centres / mission-critical environments
  • Pharmaceutical or healthcare construction
  • Laboratory environments
  • Other technically complex construction projects

You'll ideally have hands-on experience with:

  • Subcontract procurement
  • Valuations and applications
  • Variations and change control
  • CVRs and cost reporting
  • Subcontract management
  • Contract administration
  • Final accounts
  • Commercial forecasting and risk management

We're open to candidates at Quantity Surveyor or Senior Quantity Surveyor level, depending on the depth of your experience.

Personality Matters

This is a relatively small and collaborative team, so we're looking for someone who enjoys being involved and working closely with people.

You'll need to be:

  • Commercially minded
  • Confident communicating with different stakeholders
  • Collaborative and approachable
  • Comfortable working closely with Project Managers and technical teams
  • Proactive rather than someone who waits to be told what to do
  • Organized and able to manage competing priorities
  • Interested in taking genuine ownership of your work

If you prefer working in a large corporate environment with clearly separated departments and limited interaction with the wider project team, this probably won't be the right fit.

If you want to be part of the decision-making, have visibility with senior management, and see the direct impact of your work, it could be a very good opportunity.

Why Join?

This is a particularly interesting time to join the business.

The company has a strong pipeline of specialist projects and is continuing to grow its team and commercial function. You'll be joining at a stage where you can help shape how that function develops rather than walking into an established structure where everything is already set.

For the right person, there is genuine scope to progress into a Senior QS position and potentially take greater responsibility for the wider QS/commercial function as the business grows.

You'll also have direct exposure to senior decision-makers and the opportunity to build experience across technically demanding projects that can add real weight to your career.

The Package

  • Salary up to £75,000, depending on experience
  • Car allowance
  • Additional company benefits
  • Permanent position
  • South Manchester location
  • Opportunity to work on technically specialist projects
  • Clear scope for progression as the business grows

Interested?

If you're a Quantity Surveyor with a strong commercial background and want to move into a role where you're genuinely involved in projects and commercial decision-making, we'd like to hear from you.
