Reports to: Senior Quantity Surveyor / Commercial Manager
Location: Manchester, UK
Salary: Competitive

Purpose of the Role

The Quantity Surveyor (QS) for the IES Group will support the commercial management and financial control of multi-utility projects across gas, water, power, and telecoms. This role ensures effective cost management, contract administration, and commercial governance to help deliver projects on time and within budget. The QS will work closely with project, finance, and client teams to support commercial outcomes and contribute to the company's growth and reputation.

Commercial Support

  • Assist in the preparation, negotiation, and administration of contracts, ensuring compliance with company policies and relevant legislation.
  • Support the implementation of commercial strategies for all municipal projects.
  • Provide commercial input to project teams on risk, opportunity, and value.

  • Assist with cost planning, budgeting, and forecasting for projects.
  • Prepare and submit applications for payment, valuations, and variations.
  • Monitor project costs and performance against budgets, reporting variances to the Senior QS/Commercial Manager.

Contract Administration

  • Support the administration of contracts in accordance with their terms and conditions (e.g., NEC, JCT, bespoke forms).
  • Assist in the resolution of commercial disputes, claims, and final accounts.
  • Maintain awareness of industry standards, contract law, and regulatory changes.

Stakeholder Engagement

  • Build and maintain effective relationships with clients, supply chain partners, and internal teams.
  • Represent IES Group in commercial discussions and meetings as required.
  • Provide commercial information and reports to project and commercial management.

Key Skills & Experience

  • A minimum of 2 years experience as a Quantity Surveyor in the utilities sector (gas, water, power, telecoms) or similar infrastructure environment or a Bachelor's degree in Quantity Surveying with at least a year's experience.
  • Knowledge of contract law, commercial management, and cost control.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities.
  • Good negotiation, communication, and stakeholder management skills.
  • Analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Highly proficient in Microsoft Excel.
  • Relevant qualifications (e.g., degree or HNC/HND in Quantity Surveying, Commercial Management, or similar).
