Walter Thompson, the major contracting arm of the FT Construction Group, is looking to recruit an experienced Quantity Surveyor or Senior Quantity Surveyor to join our commercial team.
This is an excellent opportunity for an ambitious and commercially minded professional to play a key role in delivering high-quality construction projects for a portfolio of valued repeat private sector clients across the UK.

The Role
As a Quantity Surveyor/Senior Quantity Surveyor, you will take full commercial responsibility for your assigned construction projects, managing both pre-contract and post-contract commercial functions while ensuring projects are delivered profitably and efficiently.
Working closely with our operational teams, clients and subcontractors, you will be a key member of the project team, providing commercial leadership from tender stage through to final account.
Key Responsibilities
Your responsibilities will include:
- Managing the commercial and contractual aspects of a range of new build construction projects.
- Preparing budgets, cost plans and project estimates.
- Managing project costs, forecasts and cash flow.
- Preparing, submitting and negotiating applications for payment, valuations, variations and final accounts.
- Undertaking cost analysis and value engineering to maximise project profitability.
- Advising on procurement strategy and subcontractor selection.
- Reviewing tender documentation, bills of quantities and contract conditions.
- Negotiating subcontract packages and ensuring commercial compliance.
- Identifying, analysing and managing commercial risks and opportunities.
- Providing advice on contractual matters and claims.
- Producing accurate monthly cost reports and financial forecasts.
- Maintaining effective cost and financial control systems throughout the project lifecycle.
- Liaising with clients, consultants and project teams to ensure successful commercial outcomes.
- Representing the Walter Thompson brand with professionalism and integrity.

About You
We're looking for an enthusiastic team player with excellent commercial awareness and a proactive approach to problem solving.
Essential Skills & Experience
- Experience working as a Quantity Surveyor or Senior Quantity Surveyor within the construction industry.
- Strong commercial and contractual knowledge.
- Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
- Excellent organisational and time management skills.
- Strong negotiation and analytical skills.
- Excellent verbal and written communication.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office applications.
- Full UK driving licence.
- Ability to work collaboratively within a project team.
Desirable Qualifications
- Degree or HNC in Quantity Surveying or a related construction discipline.
- Experience of working on new build construction projects.
- Knowledge of a range of standard forms of construction contract.
