Quantity Surveyor: Structural Steelwork

Location: Sheffield

Salary: Up to GBP60,000 + Benefits

Our client is seeking a motivated and experienced Quantity Surveyor to join their growing team in Sheffield. The successful candidate will be responsible for managing the commercial aspects of structural steelwork projects, ensuring costs are effectively controlled, profitability is maintained, and projects are delivered to a high standard.

This is an excellent opportunity for a Quantity Surveyor with a background in structural steel, steel fabrication, construction, or a related sector to take ownership of projects and work closely with clients, site teams, engineers, and project managers.

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare accurate cost estimates, budgets, and tender submissions.
  • Review and interpret drawings, specifications, and contract documentation.
  • Measure and value works throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Prepare valuations, applications for payment, and final accounts.
  • Manage variations, change orders, and commercial claims.
  • Monitor project costs, forecasts, budgets, and cash flow.
  • Procure subcontractors, suppliers, and materials where required.
  • Negotiate contracts, variations, and commercial agreements.
  • Liaise closely with clients, project managers, engineers, and site teams.
  • Identify and manage commercial risks and opportunities.
  • Ensure projects remain commercially viable and are delivered within budget.
  • Maintain accurate commercial records and project documentation.

Requirements

  • Previous experience working as a Quantity Surveyor within construction, structural steel, or a related industry.
  • Strong understanding of construction contracts and commercial management.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and specifications.
  • Strong numerical, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication and negotiation abilities.
  • Good commercial awareness with a focus on cost control and profitability.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel.
  • Ability to work independently while contributing effectively within a project team.
