Senior Quantum Engineer – Hayes, Middlesex
Location: Hayes, Middlesex
Working: Hybrid
A leading technology organisation is looking for a Senior Quantum Engineer to join a multidisciplinary Applied Science team developing next generation quantum technologies.
This Senior Quantum Engineer job will focus on the design, development, integration and testing of trapped ion optical atomic clock systems for defence, security and critical national infrastructure applications.
Senior Quantum Engineer Job Responsibilities
The Senior Quantum Engineer will work across:
- Trapped ion physics packages
- Ultra high vacuum systems
- Laser cooling and spectroscopy
- Frequency stabilisation and optical frequency combs
- Electronic control systems
- System integration and verification

The Senior Quantum Engineer job in Hayes, Middlesex will involve designing and optimising laser systems, supporting vacuum and ion trapping hardware, carrying out precision spectroscopy, analysing experimental data and integrating optical, electronic, software and mechanical systems.
The role will also involve producing technical documentation, supporting customer demonstrations and helping transition research prototypes into manufacturable products.
Senior Quantum Engineer Requirements
The successful candidate will have:
- PhD in Atomic, Molecular and Optical Physics, Experimental Physics, Quantum Technologies, Photonics, Laser Physics or a related discipline
- Hands on experience building and operating optical experiments
- Strong understanding of laser systems and optical diagnostics
- Experimental design, troubleshooting and data analysis experience

Desirable experience includes trapped ions, cold atoms, precision spectroscopy, laser cooling, ultra high vacuum, photonics, fibre optics, optical frequency combs, electronics or experimental software using Python, LabVIEW or MATLAB.
