The Aggregate and Recycling division of Cormac operates macadam hot coated stone plant, has earth and stone moving equipment within a working quarry area of some 84 hectares at Castle-An-Dinas, Penzance. It also operates 5 recycling depots throughout the county.
The Castle-an-Dinas Quarry is a key element in the supply chain of aggregates and asphalt for CORMAC and local businesses in Cornwall.
The Aggregates & Recycling team produces approximately 250,000 tons of material per annum, ranging from graded fills and sub-bases, clean aggregates used in the production of road asphalt and concrete production, hedging stone and various size aggregates for the building industries.
About the role
As a Quarry operative, you would be expected to:
- To drive / operate vehicles and plant in the Quarry.
- To undertake a broad range of operational tasks including extensive practical knowledge and skills with regard to mobile and static plant.
- To ensure the safety of yourself, colleagues and the public.
- To be responsible for utilizing the appropriate personal protective equipment.
- To keep co-workers safe, follow procedures and report unsafe practice.
- To be responsible for stopping works and actively challenging unsafe practice.
- To report safety incidents including near misses.
- To ensure that good environmental practices are observed.
- To ensure all driver / vehicle records are maintained.

About you
The following qualifications and experience are essential:
- Working knowledge of the Health & Safety at Work Act.
- Ability to achieve NVQ2 in a relevant discipline or equivalent relevant experience.
- Affable and polite showing good customer care skills.
- Sound team worker, adaptable and flexible.
- Demonstrate experience in mobile plant and machinery.
- Demonstrate good verbal communication skills
The following qualifications and experience would be an advantage:
- MPQC Registration or equivalent in the operation of mobile plant.
- Practical skills in line with the delivery of a broad range of manual tasks.
- Able to work on own initiative to resolve problems.
- Demonstrate good problem-solving skills, the ability to react to changing situations and meet strict deadlines.
- UK Driving license and vehicle.

Salary: £27,306.00
