About the Team
Our Population Studies team of around 40 researchers works on high-profile and influential official and national statistics, longitudinal studies, and ad hoc research on topics such as crime, education, science, energy, transport and culture.
We work with clients including the Office for National Statistics, Department for Culture, Media and Sport, Transport for London and Department for Energy Security and Net Zero, as well as academic institutions such as the University of Essex. Our work contributes to vital national statistics and major longitudinal studies, including Understanding Society, the largest longitudinal household panel study of its kind in the world.

About the Role
We’re looking for a Project Manager focused on Questionnaire Development to coordinate the development, programming, quality assurance and delivery of questionnaires for Understanding Society.
Reporting to the Project Director, you’ll act as the bridge between our research team, survey programmers, field staff and clients at the University of Essex. You’ll manage multiple activities to demanding deadlines, ensuring questionnaires are delivered accurately, efficiently, to timetable and budget, while identifying opportunities to improve the process.

What You’ll Do
- Manage delivery of multiple and complex questionnaires concurrently by drafting questionnaire work plans and delivery schedules at the start of each survey cycle, keeping these up to date during the lifetime of a survey, monitoring progress against key dates, and identifying, managing and logging delivery risk.
- Act as a trusted point of contact for our clients through regular and proactive communication which translates their requirements into practical delivery and keeps them informed of development risks, delays and mitigation plans.
- Manage all quality assurance processes associated with the questionnaires by ensuring the right resources are in place, undertaking quality assurance tasks directly, overseeing other team members undertaking quality assurance, fully documenting all processes, and identifying efficiencies or innovation.
- Build capability by developing and delivering high-quality guidance and training to onboard new staff and refresh the knowledge of staff involved in this role.
- Be the main point of contact with our offshore scripting team, ensuring allocation of sufficient scripting resources, clear lines of communication with the research team, and early identification and escalation of any technical or other barriers to delivery.
- Coordinate and manage the operational delivery of questionnaires by working collaboratively and sharing information with other operational teams, including sampling, field, coding and data management teams.

- Have excellent troubleshooting and problem-solving abilities so you can turn complex requirements into practical delivery plans.
- Have training or qualifications in project management (APM, PRINCE2) — this would be an advantage but is not essential.
