Position Summary
The Thrift Shop Project Coordinator leads the development of a campus thrift shop by coordinating planning efforts, building strategic partnerships, and securing the resources needed for implementation. This role works closely with campus departments, student organizations, and community partners to advance the project, increase awareness, and foster collaboration. Responsibilities include engaging students through sustainability and reuse initiatives, researching best practices from peer institutions, managing donated inventory, and supporting operational planning. The coordinator also helps ensure compliance with university policies and regulatory requirements while contributing to the creation of a sustainable, accessible thrift shop that promotes waste reduction and supports the campus community.

Preferred Job Qualifications
- Self-motivated, detail-oriented, and creative problem-solving skills
- Ability to work collaboratively as well as independently
- Willing to take on a variety of tasks
- Experience with Microsoft Office Suite and Teams
- Some experience related to sustainability required, including experience with clothing swaps and mending workshops
- Demonstrated commitment to inclusion and environmental justice
- Experience with statistics and data management preferred but not required
- Experience with web content management systems preferred but not required
Essential Job Duties
- Advance thrift shop proposal by securing space allocation, funding, and equipment resources.
- Collaborate with campus partners to advance the concept including Student Sustainability Center, ASCSU, Basic Needs, Design & Merchandising, and Zero Waste Team.
- Outreach to potential partners, sponsors, and/or donors to share proposal, raise awareness, and address any questions or concerns.
- Attend related campus events and programs including mending workshops, clothing swaps, reuse programs, etc. to engage students, explore models that may transition to the thrift shop, and to collect input and ideas.
- Connect with other institutions who have a successful thrift store to collect best practices, lessons learned, and challenges.
- Inventory and store donations.
- Prepare for regulatory and policy compliance with Environmental Health Services, Surplus, and any necessary budget or management.
