Position Summary
This research assistant will help Associate Professor Doug Cloud in F26 and S27 as he conducts research and performs editorial review on the manuscript of his book-in-progress, Project Eveningland: Wild Deliberation on North American Hiking Trails. The RA will be responsible for checking the structure of the book for consistency and coherence and perform basic checks for error and style. The RA will also conduct research using Internet and library resources. They’ll identify sources and fact-check claims in the book, primarily English-Cherokee translations, place histories, plant identification, geology, and so on. They’ll also assist the PI in logistical tasks (planning future research expeditions).

- Advanced ability to read and synthesize information.

- Familiarity with long-distance backpacking.
- Coursework in language, identity, and social change or similar.

Essential Duties
- Read and review scholarly writing for accuracy, style, consistency, and structure.
- Conduct research on topics related to place history, deliberation, and other subjects related to the long-distance hiking.
- Help the primary investigator organize and plan future research trips next summer.
