Position Summary
This is a temporary position in partnership with Clinical Sciences. The student will be responsible for analyzing data from focus groups and multi-sector workshops conducted with participants across the Colorado beef production system (including producers, feedlots, transporters, veterinarians, and regulatory officials) on incentives for adopting enhanced biosecurity and Secure Beef Supply Plan practices for Foot and Mouth Disease preparedness. Work will include organizing and coding qualitative data, assembling and analyzing secondary data on the beef industry, and evaluating potential incentive types. The student will also contribute to writing academic publications and an extension report directed at policymakers, state animal health officials, and industry leaders, and may have the opportunity to attend stakeholder meetings. The student must have strong skills in agricultural economics and veterinary epidemiology, along with applied data analysis experience, and be interested in animal health policy and outreach work.

Required Skills
- Must be enrolled as a Doctoral student in the Department of Agricultural and Resource Economics
- GPA must be 3.9 or higher
- Must have received an A or higher in AREC 736D&B and AREC 735
- Strong statistical analysis skill
- Experience working with qualitative data gathering and analysis
- Must be proficient with Microsoft Office and R
- Must have experience with technical terms and data in veterinary epidemiology, particularly foreign animal disease preparedness and response
- Experience assembling and manipulating secondary data on livestock operations, herd inventories, and animal movement
- Experience with coding software for qualitative data analysis or willingness to learn
- Ability to maintain confidentiality, be punctual, and communicate changes in work schedule
- Ability to work inclusively in a diverse setting

Preferred Skills
- Received A in both AREC 706 and AREC 570
- Strong verbal communication skills
- Ability to prioritize responsibilities to meet deadlines with successful completion of work
