Position Summary
The Imaging and Materials Characterization Division in the Analytical Resources Core (ARC) is hiring a student hourly to support service projects in the electron microscopy lab. The student will work with ARC staff to assist with sample preparation for biological samples, working independently to complete established protocols or develop new methods under the advisement of ARC staff. The ideal candidate will be capable of relating experimental outcomes with the preparation methods used. The candidate will have demonstrated strong written and oral communication skills and knowledge of MS Office products such as Word, Teams, Outlook, and OneNote.

Required Job Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in chemistry, biology, biochemistry, or a related field.
- Experience with preparing biological samples for electron microscopy imaging.
Preferred Job Qualifications
- Experience with one or more of the following electron microscopy sample preparation techniques: chemical fixation, Os staining, EtOH dehydration, resin embedding, ultramicrotomy, lead citrate staining, tissue processing, negative staining, critical point drying.
- Demonstrated written and oral scientific communication skills.
- Previous experience operating an electron microscope

Essential Duties
- Execute sample preparation protocols for biological samples.
- Assist in the development of new methods for preparing biological samples.
- Communicate methods used through written summaries.
- Track project progress through iLab, OneNote, and Teams in accordance with ARC procedures.
- Assist with imaging of routine biological materials samples.
