Base Location: You'll be expected to spend 50% of your working week in one of the following office locations Glasgow, Perth or Dublin

Salary: £31,600 - £47,400 (UK) or €41,600 - €62,400 (ROI) + performance-related bonus + a range of benefits to support your finances, wellbeing and family.

Working Pattern: Permanent | Full Time | Flexible First options available

The role

Join SSE's Record to Report (R2R) Centre of Excellence as an Assistant Accountant and play a key role in delivering accurate, timely and well-controlled financial information that supports the success of the SSE Group. This is a fantastic opportunity for someone who is passionate about developing their accounting career within a collaborative and supportive environment, working alongside experienced finance professionals across areas including General Ledger, Revenue, Projects and Fixed Assets. You'll contribute to delivering high-quality financial reporting, strengthening financial controls, and driving continuous improvement, while helping to foster a culture where safety, wellbeing, integrity and accountability are at the heart of everything we do.

You will

  • Support month-end, half-year and year-end reporting activities, ensuring accurate and timely delivery of key financial outputs.
  • Prepare journals, balance sheet reconciliations and reporting packs, helping to investigate and explain variances and material movements.
  • Carry out key financial controls and maintain clear documentation, audit trails and supporting evidence to ensure a robust control environment.
  • Collaborate closely with colleagues across the R2R team, sharing knowledge and supporting safe, consistent and efficient ways of working.
  • Identify opportunities to improve processes, enhance controls and support continuous improvement initiatives across the function.

You have

  • Experience in finance, accounting or a related discipline, with progress towards a professional qualification such as ICAS, ACCA or CIMA, or equivalent relevant experience.
  • A proactive and curious approach, with the confidence to investigate issues, solve problems and escalate risks appropriately.
  • Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage competing priorities while delivering high-quality work to agreed deadlines.
  • Excellent attention to detail and a commitment to maintaining accurate records, controls and processes.
  • A collaborative and supportive working style, with a focus on building positive relationships and contributing to a safe, inclusive and high-performing team culture.
