Your new role

As the Music Services Support Officer, you will be at the heart of the service, ensuring the smooth and efficient administration of frontline music provision across the city. This contract is offered on a part-time (25.90 hours) and temporary (initially 3 months) basis whilst we appoint to the substantive lead officer post. Acting as the first point of contact for schools, parents, students, and professionals, you will provide a high level of customer service while supporting the operational and financial functions of Music on Sea.

The post holder will work under the direction of the Interim Lead Officer for the Music Service, who reports to the Service Manager, and will work alongside a team of approximately 30 peripatetic music tutors. The role will be based at the Civic Centre for a minimum of two days per week, with opportunities for agile working across schools and other settings within Southend, as well as home working, subject to mutual agreement and service demand. A willingness and ability to travel, either by private transport or public transport, is essential.

We are looking for an organised and proactive individual to fulfil a role that is central to the success of the Service. The post will focus on ensuring that all frontline delivery is administered efficiently and in a timely manner, while working closely with the Interim Lead Officer to support the accurate collection, management, and reporting of service data.

The successful candidate will also take responsibility for maintaining the Music Service's internal administrative systems, ensuring they remain accurate and effective. In addition, you will maintain the Service website, ensuring content is up to date, accessible, and user-friendly, support delivery of the instrument hire service, and undertake other administrative and service support duties as required.

What you'll need to succeed

To be successful in this role, you will bring previous experience of delivering a high-quality, customer-focused service and have strong administrative skills, particularly within a busy and fast-paced environment. You will have a good understanding of financial administration processes, including purchase orders, invoicing, reconciliation, and compliance procedures, will be highly advantageous. It is essential that you are a confident communicator with strong interpersonal skills, capable of building positive working relationships with colleagues, schools, parents, and external partners. The successful applicant will be a highly capable professional with experience of delivering a high-quality, customer-focused service.
