BFBS, The Forces Station
BFBS, The Forces Station, wants to hear from you if you’re an experienced Radio Presenter-Producer who is excited for an international adventure, broadcasting to British audiences in the UK and overseas.
About the Role
We are looking for brilliant broadcasters who are excited to embrace our mission to entertain, inform, connect and champion serving British Forces personnel and their families.
- You’ll start your career as a Forces Broadcaster based at one of our local radio stations around the UK (usually for around six months), before heading out to travel the Forces world to live and work in various military locations.
- You’ll present a Mon-Fri daily music radio show, broadcasting to people in the local military community, focused on serving personnel and their families. Your show will feature your own high-quality speech packages, telling stories and interviewing contributors from within your military community. You’ll balance this with fun interactive features of your own devising, alongside our mix of new music and classic hits.
What We Need from You
You will have:
- Recent experience of presenting live music radio programmes in a self-op studio, using industry-standard playout and scheduling systems. We need someone for whom a radio studio is already like a second home.
- Experience of researching, recording, producing and editing speech content – such as interviews, packages, documentaries or podcasts. We need someone who will get out and about amongst the Forces community and tell their stories.
- An eagerness to learn about Forces life, and support and connect military communities. Previous experience in military life is not a requirement, but you’ll be interested in learning quickly.
- A track record of communicating authentically with audiences aged 18-35 through audio and other content formats.
- The flexibility to relocate. This will initially be to a new UK location, and eventually to an overseas location. Our UK locations include North Yorkshire, Essex, Wiltshire, and Oxfordshire. You would be responsible for relocating to one of these areas and arranging your own private accommodation. Our overseas locations include Germany, Cyprus, Brunei and the Falkland Islands. When detached overseas, we would arrange accommodation on a military base. Please only apply if you are able to relocate to any of our locations.
- A full driving licence and your own vehicle – most military bases are in remote locations, and we’ll need you to be able to drive yourself around the Forces community.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.
